The Nameserver Selection page allows you to choose the DNS service your server will use to resolve and serve DNS records for domains hosted on it.

Overview ​

This page is essential for configuring the DNS behavior of your server. A nameserver is a service that maps domain names to IP addresses. Without it, domain resolution will not function, which affects website accessibility, email delivery, and more.

Options ​

PowerDNS ​

PowerDNS is a modern, high-performance DNS server used widely in hosting environments. It offers:

  • Very high performance
  • Instant start-up
  • Low memory requirements

When selected, PowerDNS will be automatically installed, configured, and enabled on your server.

Recommended for most users running their own DNS infrastructure.

Disabled ​

This option disables the internal DNS server.

  • Suitable for servers using remote nameservers (e.g., from registrar or another external DNS provider).
  • AdminBolt will not serve DNS zones locally.

Use this option only if you're certain DNS is being handled elsewhere.

Save Settings ​

Clicking the Save Settings button will apply your selected DNS configuration. Changes are effective immediately and may restart DNS-related services.

Notes ​

Choose carefully based on your infrastructure and domain delegation method.
