Overview

The Default Address section in AdminBolt allows users to handle unrouted emails — messages sent to an email address at your domain that doesn't actually exist. This feature ensures you don’t miss important emails due to typos or undeclared addresses.

Purpose

  • Catch-all mechanism for emails sent to invalid or non-existent accounts.
  • Useful for small businesses or personal domains to ensure no message is lost.
  • Helps identify spam attempts to random addresses.

Interface Description

Default Address Maintenance

"Send all unrouted email for the following domain"

Options:

  • Forward to Email Address
→ Redirect all unrouted emails to a specific mailbox (e.g., catchall@domain.com)

  • Discard and send an error to the sender (at SMTP time)
→ Reject messages to non-existent accounts and notify the sender (recommended to avoid spam accumulation)

Action Button:

  • Change: Applies the selected catch-all rule for the chosen domain.

Typical Use Cases

  • Automatically forward all unknown addresses like info@, help@, or typos to your main inbox.
  • Prevent email loss on domains with minimal mailbox configuration.

Notes

  • Using a default address may attract spam, so be sure to implement spam filtering.
  • Best practice: forward to a specific mailbox and monitor it periodically.
