Landing Pages holds the templates served on a domain that has no site on it yet. It is what a visitor sees between the moment a domain starts pointing at the server and the moment its owner puts a site there.

Add Landing page template creates one. With no templates of your own, the server's default is served.
A landing page is the first impression a new customer's visitors get, so it is worth carrying your own branding rather than leaving the default in place.
